Chrissy Teigan on the Fab Life

For my fifth week of Celebrity Test Kitchen I decided to try out a recipe from Chrissy Teigan. She is a model and one of the co-hosts of The Fab Life. She is also the wife of one of my favorite male singers, John Legend…bonus! I must admit that I've kind of stalked Chrissy's Instagram from time to time because she's such a foodie and she eats well. I like people who eat well. LOL

Anyway, the recipe for this soup had a lot of different ingredients, so I was almost tempted not to try it. but this one just kept calling me for some reason. Here is the recipe:

  • 8 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes, divided
  • 1/2 pound cleaned shrimp (no tails!)
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 6 shiitake mushrooms, stemmed and finely minced
  • ¼ cup finely chopped cilantro, plus more leaves for garnish
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil, divided
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 large square (6 inch) egg roll wrappers
  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced

Let me start by saying that even though there were a lot of steps to making this soup it was totally worth it! If you happen to catch the replay of my periscope on  you will see that we had problems all because I picked up the wrong kind of wrappers from the asian market. All of the wrappers were frozen so it was hard to tell the difference because nothing on them were in english. Even when I asked for help I was told these were the right wrappers. Were they? Absolutely not. Anyway even with the mishap we made the best of it, cooked it and tasted it. 

The flavors that came from this bowl of soup were beyond amazing!! My tastebuds were dancing for sure. This was one of the best soups, that consisted of asian flavors, that I had in a long time. That's saying a lot because I could literally live off of pho and anything else vietnamese, chinese or japanese. I never live too far away from a place where I can get a good bowl of pho!

Needless to say this dish definitely earned a well deserved 9.5 from me. Because of all of the problems with the egg roll wrappers I could not get a picture that displayed the dish in the way it should have been. So the soup photo is courtesy of
